The Flood Phase II: Kill The Mold In Your Mind

When Phase I of the flood – save what you can see – was over, we entered Phase II – save what you can’t see.    Using sophisticated infrared cameras it was determined that there is quite a bit of water in my plaster walls.  Water can destroy plaster walls and fuel an outbreak of mold, yikes! So the baseboards came off and the battle began.  My house needed life saving air, kind of like mouth to mouth for a house.  Fans by the dozens were imported, heaters, tubes and a generator were employed to breath air into the walls.  My house was on life support.

It was a little…disconcerting.  I really didn’t like what I saw in my walls and when I pictured mold in there, too, well I wanted to cover it up and pretend I had never seen it.

Have you ever felt the same thing about yourself?  Have you ever caught yourself deep in thought, thoughts that if exposed to the light you would be ashamed about?   I have found myself, recently, with some unkind thoughts that have the potential to produce some serious mold in my mind.  One that keeps cropping up is the negative tendency to think the worst of people instead of the best.  For instance, you are working or volunteering with zero minutes to spare and you see several women laughing and chatting about going to lunch.  You fleetingly judge them as selfish, lazy, non-contributors.

I have lots more moldy thoughts, what are yours?  I would love to cover mine up and pretend I wasn’t aware of them, but that would allow them to grow moldy.  I have heard that the sun kills mold, so I am going to try to capture those negative thoughts and bring them out into the light – to die.
